Dr. Safir's leadership in Reconstructive Surgery of the genito-urinary tract arose from a carefully constructed plan to acheive paramount training in the field. As a surgery resident, he became interested in how reconstructive techniques familiar to plastic surgeons could be adopted to the field of urological surgery. He became the first US-trained urological surgeon to complete separate year-long fellowships in female and male reconstructive surgery. Many pelvic surgeons train for four years, rather than Dr. Safir's 8 year path to surgical mastery of genito-urinary surgery. Not wanting to rest on his laurels, Dr. Safir sought out personal training in advanced labial reconstruction and vaginal restoration surgery. Dr. Safir has training, expertise and experience that allows him to tackle even the most complex pelvic floor reconstruction.
