Perineoplasty

Perineoplasty is a procedure to repair the tissues between the vagina and anus that in most cases has been damaged or torn during childbirth. The damaged or torn tissue will usually result vaginal looseness and vaginal flatus. This procedure will restore the region between the vagina and anus to near pre-pregnancy condition. It will also restore the skin around the area as well as muscular re-approximation and tapering of the vaginal canal at its entrance.

The perineoplasty procedure is distinguishable from older "perineal repairs" that only bulk-up the region without cosmetic attention and internal vaginal repair. Most patients undergo vaginoplasty at the same time. When performed alone, Dr. Safir can safely perform this operation in the office under local anesthesia and oral sedatives in approximately 60 minutes. Healing time can be four to six weeks.
